Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has officially introduced a new 100-rupee banknote into circulation. The central bank issued a notice on Thursday informing the public that the new note, equipped with upgraded security features, has now entered the market. The note retains the same size and color as the existing one but includes several new design and security enhancements.

The new banknote contains the promissory clause:
“On demand, the bearer shall be paid one hundred rupees by the Nepal Rastra Bank, guaranteed by the Government of Nepal.”
This statement reaffirms the banknote’s legal value and the government's backing.

On the left side, the note features a detailed illustration of Mount Everest, while the right side displays a watermark of a rhododendron (Nepal’s national flower). At the center, the design includes a map of Nepal along with an image of the Ashoka pillar, adding cultural and national symbolism to the note.

To support visually impaired individuals, the note includes a tactile black dot placed near the Ashoka pillar, enabling easier identification by touch. Additionally, the left side of the note contains an oval-shaped silver metallic image of Maya Devi, enhancing both design and authenticity.

For security, the note incorporates a 2 mm-wide security thread that appears red when viewed straight and green when tilted. This color-shifting feature significantly strengthens protection against counterfeiting.

The new note also carries the signature of former NRB Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari. At the bottom border, the note features the series number printed in Nepali as “B.S. 2081,” indicating the issuance year of this updated version.

According to Nepal Rastra Bank, the new 100-rupee notes will gradually be distributed nationwide through the banking system.
