On the occasion of Asar 1st, all seven provincial governments of Nepal are set to unveil their budgets for the fiscal year 2082/83 today. Finance Ministers from Sudurpashchim, Karnali, Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces will present their income-expenditure statements in respective provincial assemblies.

As per the constitution, the federal government must present its budget on Jestha 15, provinces on Asar 1, and local governments on Asar 10 each year. Accordingly, the provincial assemblies are convening today to present the new fiscal budgets.

Budget Size by Province:

Sudurpashchim Province
Last year, the province presented a budget of NPR 29.26 billion. This year, it is expected to bring a similar-sized budget. Finance Minister Bahadur Singh Thapa is scheduled to present the budget today at 5 PM.
Bagmati Province
The province, which includes the federal capital Kathmandu, is expected to unveil a budget of around NPR 68 billion. Last year, Bagmati had presented NPR 62.70 billion. The assembly meeting is scheduled for 3 PM today.
Madhesh Province
In FY 2081/82, Madhesh Province had presented a budget worth NPR 44.11 billion. A comparable amount is expected this year.
Koshi Province
The budget size for the last fiscal year stood at NPR 36.24 billion.
Gandaki Province
Presented a budget of NPR 33.42 billion in FY 2081/82.
Lumbini Province
The budget announced last year was NPR 40.47 billion.
Karnali Province
While details have not been disclosed yet, it is expected to present a budget of similar scale to the previous year.

Today’s provincial budgets will outline key priorities for FY 2082/83, including infrastructure, health, education, and employment. As a critical component of federalism, these budgets will reflect how provincial governments plan to serve their citizens and boost regional development in the coming fiscal year.
