Deposits in Banks and Financial Institutions Rise by 12.6 Percent

Kathmandu — In the fiscal year 2081/82, deposits in banks and financial institutions increased by 12.6 percent (Rs. 811.49 billion), according to Nepal Rastra Bank. In the previous year, deposits had grown by 13 percent (Rs. 742.37 billion), showing a slightly slower but stable growth trend.

The composition of deposits from FY 2078 to FY 2082 shows a decline in current deposits, a rise in savings deposits, and fluctuations in fixed deposits. By the end of FY 2082, the share of deposits stood at 7.1 percent for current deposits, 36.8 percent for savings deposits, and 48.3 percent for fixed deposits. In contrast, the shares in the previous year were 5.8 percent, 30.3 percent, and 56.4 percent, respectively.

Similarly, as of the end of FY 2082, institutional deposits accounted for 36.1 percent of the total deposits, compared to 36.2 percent in the previous year, showing a marginal decline.

Analysts note that the notable rise in savings deposits and the decline in fixed deposits reflect shifting priorities in liquidity management within the banking sector. This trend is also expected to influence future interest rates and credit flows.
