Miteri Development Bank Penalized by Nepal Rastra Bank Miteri Development Bank has faced action from Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). The Bank Supervision Department of NRB penalized the bank during the first quarter of the current fiscal year for violating regulatory directives. The penalty was imposed after the bank failed to maintain the interest rate spread within the prescribed limit. NRB has also cautioned the bank not to repeat such actions in the future. As per the Integrated Directives 2080, issued by NRB in Ashar 2081, Miteri Bank violated Clause 940 of Directive No. 15, which mandates a maximum interest rate spread of 4.60%. In response, NRB has imposed restrictions on the bank's branch expansion and prohibited it from offering refinancing facilities, except for those provided to earthquake victims. NRB has emphasized strict adherence to financial discipline and reminded all banks and financial institutions to comply with regulatory provisions.

Over NPR 9 Billion Capital Gains Tax Collected from Share Trading in 5 Months The Nepal government has collected NPR 9.24 billion in capital gains tax from share trading during the first five months of the current fiscal year, from Shrawan to Mangsir. Nepal Exports Electricity Worth NPR 13.04 Billion to India in the First Five Months of FY 2081/82 Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) exported surplus electricity worth NPR 13.04 billion to India during the first five months of the current fiscal year, 2081/82. The export consisted of 1.76 billion units of surplus electricity generated during the monsoon season, consumed domestically before exporting to India. The average export price of electricity during these four months was NPR 7.39 per unit. NEA sold the electricity in the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) through Day-Ahead and Real-Time Markets and under bilateral medium-term contracts with Haryana and Bihar states. The electricity trade with India is conducted in Indian Rupees (INR), earning NEA INR 8.15 billion in revenue.

SEBON’s Capital Hike Pressure on Old Stockbrokers Nepal Securities Board (SEBON) has mandated existing stockbroker companies to increase their paid-up capital to NPR 200 million by July 2025. However, delays in issuing merger guidelines have created challenges for 39 companies still unable to meet the capital requirements. While the amended regulations from 2022 allow brokers to opt for mergers or acquisitions, the absence of clear directives has made it difficult for brokers to proceed. Currently, 43 new stockbrokers have already met the capital requirements, while the remaining old brokers face increasing pressure to compete. The association has requested SEBON to extend the deadline by at least one year, citing delays in the issuance of merger guidelines as a major obstacle.
