6,400 Electric Vehicles Imported into Nepal in 8 Months, Majority from China and India

In the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, a total of 6,400 electric vehicles (cars, jeeps, and vans) has been imported into Nepal. According to the Department of Customs, the government collected Rs 9.11 billion in revenue from these imports, while EV imports worth Rs 14.96 billion were brought into the country. The largest share of EV imports came from China, accounting for 69 percent with 4,399 units. India ranked second with 1,533 EVs, making up 23 percent of the total imports. In addition, smaller numbers of EVs were imported from Thailand, United States, Germany, South Korea, Australia and United Kingdom.
