Government Mobilizes Rs 255.48 Billion Public Debt by Mid-Magh; Total Debt Liability Crosses Rs 2.85 Trillion

The Government of Nepal has received public loans worth Rs 255.48 billion by mid-Magh of the current fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS). According to the Public Debt Management Office under the Ministry of Finance, the government had set a target to mobilize Rs 595 billion in public debt during the fiscal year, of which 42.89 percent has been achieved by mid-Magh. At the beginning of the fiscal year, total public debt stood at Rs 2.674 trillion, which increased by Rs 184.93 billion to reach Rs 2.858 trillion by mid-Magh, equivalent to 46.81 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Of the total public debt, external debt accounts for 52.81 percent while domestic debt represents 47.19 percent. Meanwhile, out of the allocated Rs 411.01 billion for debt servicing in the current fiscal year, the government has already paid Rs 203.65 billion by mid-Magh, representing 49.55 percent of the annual allocation and 3.33 percent of GDP.
