China Calls Trump’s 50% Tariff Threat ‘Another Big Mistake’

China has strongly reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce labeled Trump’s move as “another big mistake,” warning that it would never accept any threatening behavior from the United States. In a statement, the ministry said, “We will not tolerate any threats or pressure from the U.S. and will fight against tariffs with all our strength until the very end.”

Meanwhile, the ruling Chinese Communist Party’s mouthpiece, People’s Daily, published an article on the issue. The article described China’s response as “appropriate, lawful, strong, and restrained,” while accusing the U.S. of attempting to flex its power on the global stage. The article’s headline reads: “Pressuring and Threatening China Is Not the Right Way.”

Criticizing the Trump administration, the piece argues that the U.S. is using tariffs as a weapon, which could destabilize international trade. In contrast, it portrays China as a supporter of global cooperation and equality.

This dispute signals a potential escalation in trade tensions between the United States and China.
