Gold Hits Historic High as Dollar Weakens, Stock Markets Mixed Gold prices soared to a historic record high on Tuesday as a weaker dollar and expectations of U.S. interest rate cuts pushed investors toward safe-haven assets. US Imposes Additional 25% Tariff on Indian Goods, Exports Likely to Suffer The United States has officially announced an additional 25% tariff on goods imported from India. According to Tuesday’s order, the new duty will come into effect from Wednesday (August 27) at 9:31 AM Indian Standard Time. US President Donald Trump had earlier, on August 6, declared this tariff as a penalty for India’s oil imports from Russia. Later, on August 7, he cited the trade deficit with India as another reason for imposing a 25% duty. Nepal Decides to Increase Its Shareholding in IMF by 50 Percent Nepal has decided to increase its shareholding in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by 50 percent. Currently, Nepal’s fund quota stands at 159.9 million SDR, which will be raised to 235.35 million SDR. The Cabinet meeting held on Monday agreed to increase the share by 78.45 million SDR. As a result, Nepal will contribute 107.3 million USD (approximately 15 billion NPR) to the IMF. Of this amount, 25 percent will be paid from the current fiscal year's budget, and the remaining 75 percent will be paid through promissory notes issued by Nepal Rastra Bank. This increase will enhance Nepal's voting power and loan limits at the IMF.
