Finance Minister Poudel Urges SEBON to Introduce New Tools and Curb Insider Trading

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has urged the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) to introduce new financial instruments in the capital market to foster trust and transparency. Speaking at SEBON's 33rd anniversary celebration on Sunday, he emphasized the need to create a secure and reliable trading environment for all investors.

"SEBON must be able to prevent insider trading. The development and expansion of the capital market are only possible if we eliminate insider trading, baseless speculations, and non-transparent practices," said Minister Poudel. "In addition, the board must adopt transparency in its policy-making processes."

He further stated that the government has prioritized the capital market in its budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

"The Securities Board should not fall under any kind of influence or pressure. We expect the board to function independently and proactively," he added. "SEBON must take a firm stand against insider trading and also take steps to raise awareness among investors."

Minister Poudel also advised SEBON Chairman Santosh Narayan Shrestha to work independently without succumbing to external influence, ensuring the board’s credibility and integrity remain intact.

Several experts and stakeholders present at the event echoed the importance of reforms and transparency to strengthen Nepal's capital market.
