Gen Z Protesters Storm Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwar Kathmandu — In a dramatic escalation, Gen Z protesters stormed into the Federal Parliament building in New Baneshwar today. Smashing through the main gate, they forced their way inside and hurled stones. Police later responded with tear gas and water cannons, eventually pushing the protesters out of the building. Despite the crackdown, the demonstrations have not stopped. Protesters remain active on the streets even after the District Administration Office issued a curfew order in the area. The curfew was enforced after protesters not only broke into the Parliament building and vandalized its gates but also reached the security post and hoisted Nepal’s national flag there. Security forces have tightened control around New Baneshwar, but Gen Z demonstrators continue their defiance, keeping the area tense and unstable.

New Rule for Listed Companies: Disclosure Required for Share Purchases Above 5% A new regulation has come into effect regarding investment management in companies listed under the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON). As per the rule, if any investor acquires 5% or more shares of a single company, they must immediately disclose this information to NEPSE. NEPSE has also directed listed companies to submit their financial reports and complete investment details on time. According to the rule, audited annual financial statements must be submitted to NEPSE within 5 months of the fiscal year-end, and quarterly reports must be submitted within 1 month of the quarter-end.

Kamana Sewa Development Bank Announces Dividend, What About Other Development Banks? Among the national-level development banks, Kamana Sewa Development Bank has become the first to announce dividend distribution for the last fiscal year (2081/82 BS). The bank decided to distribute a total dividend of 15.7895%, which includes 10% bonus shares and 5.7895% cash dividend (including tax). The decision was approved at the bank’s board meeting held on Sunday. Last year, the bank had distributed 12% dividend, but this year it has increased the rate. Shareholders will receive the dividend once it is approved by Nepal Rastra Bank and endorsed by the bank’s upcoming 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM). Currently, there are eight national-level development banks in operation. Among them, only Jyoti Development Bank is in loss and unable to distribute dividends. The remaining seven banks, however, have distributable profits and are in a position to announce dividends this year.

US Dollar Hits New Record in Nepali Market The value of the US dollar has once again reached a new record high in the Nepali market. Nepal Rastra Bank has fixed the buying rate at Rs. 140.93 and the selling rate at Rs. 141.53 for Sunday, the highest level so far. Earlier, on Bhadra 14, the buying rate had reached Rs. 140.82 and the selling rate Rs. 141.42, setting a record then. Within a week, the dollar has now touched a fresh high. A rising dollar essentially means the Nepali rupee is weakening. Nepal’s currency is pegged to the Indian rupee, so fluctuations in India directly impact Nepal. Recently, US President Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on goods imported from India, starting August 27. This created uncertainty in India’s trade with the US, leading to a withdrawal of foreign investments and higher demand for dollars in India. As a result, the dollar has appreciated in Nepal as well, since Nepal determines its exchange rate based on India’s evening rates.
