The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has urged the public to use credit cards responsibly and to fully understand their terms and conditions before using them.
In a notice issued by its Financial Inclusion and Consumer Protection Department, the central bank emphasized the importance of financial awareness and responsible card usage to avoid unnecessary financial burdens.
The NRB stated that while credit cards are a convenient and secure payment tool, careless use can lead to high interest rates and increased debt obligations. The bank advised users to be well informed about the credit limit, fees, interest rates, billing dates, and payment deadlines before using their cards.
According to the notice, no interest is charged if the bill is paid within the specified due date, but delayed payments result in high interest rates and additional fees.
Nepal Rastra Bank has urged all consumers to maintain financial discipline and exercise caution to avoid debt stress caused by irresponsible credit card use.
