Over 6.7 Million Demat Accounts in Nepal; Bagmati Leads, Karnali Lowest

As of the end of Baisakh in the fiscal year 2081/82, the number of Demat account holders across Nepal has reached 6,752,700. According to data published by CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC), the majority of these accounts belong to individual investors.

Province-wise data shows that Bagmati Province leads with 36.11% of the total Demat accounts, making it the region with the highest investor participation. Koshi Province ranks second with 18.85% of the total share.

Other provinces follow with Gandaki at 12.81%, Lumbini at 11.80%, Madhesh at 11.64%, and Sudurpashchim at 6.18%. Karnali Province has the lowest share, with only 2.61% of Demat accounts.

The continuous growth in Demat account numbers reflects a rising interest of the general public in Nepal’s capital market. However, the regional imbalance in account distribution highlights ongoing disparities in financial access, awareness, and investment behavior across different provinces.
