The Nepal government has collected NPR 9.24 billion in capital gains tax from share trading during the first five months of the current fiscal year, from Shrawan to Mangsir. This marks a significant increase in revenue from the stock market.
In Shrawan alone, the government collected NPR 4.27 billion, the highest amount among the five months. Similarly, collections were NPR 2.57 billion in Bhadra, NPR 586.5 million in Ashwin, NPR 758.7 million in Kartik, and NPR 1.04 billion in Mangsir.
The rising capital gains tax collection reflects increased activity and interest in the stock market. Economists predict that this figure could grow further in the coming months if the momentum in the stock market continues.
This revenue boost is expected to have a positive impact on the government's budget management. However, investors are calling for more stable policies and incentives to further strengthen the stock market and ensure its sustained growth.
