Kathmandu — The Election Commission has stated that the results of the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) or direct election system will be made public within 24 hours after vote counting begins. The commission said it is preparing to collect ballot boxes as quickly as possible and publish the results despite geographical challenges.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said that although it may take some time to collect ballot boxes from remote mountainous and hilly regions, efforts are being made to gather them as quickly as possible. He added that in areas where transportation is difficult, ballot boxes will be transported using helicopters of the Nepal Army.
According to Bhandari, the counting of proportional representation (PR) votes will also proceed simultaneously along with the counting of direct election votes. He said the commission aims to publish the results of both systems as soon as possible.
He also urged journalists to closely monitor how effectively the commission fulfills its commitment. Bhandari emphasized that the role of the media is important in maintaining transparency and credibility in the election process.
Furthermore, he noted that inviting international observers and providing them with information and hospitality before elections is a common practice in democratic countries around the world.
