The government has increased fares for public transportation following approval from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Transport operators had repeatedly requested fare adjustments due to the rise in fuel prices after the conflict in the mid-eastern region. The Department of Transport Management submitted fare recommendations to the ministry, and after receiving theoretical approval from Minister Sunil Lamsal, the fares were increased. Under the new structure, passenger vehicle fares have risen by 16.71%, goods transport fares in hilly regions by 21.68%, and in the Terai region by 15.75%. Saroj Sitoula, Senior Vice President of the Nepal National Transport Entrepreneurs Federation, stated that the fare increase has been implemented in three categories.
