Global IME Bank Tops in Fixed Deposit Collection

Global IME Bank has emerged as the leading commercial bank in Nepal in terms of fixed deposit collection. According to data published by Nepal Rastra Bank as of the end of Baisakh 2082, the bank has collected a total of Rs. 272.86 billion in fixed deposits — the highest among all commercial banks.

Following closely, Nepal Investment Mega Bank (NIMB) has mobilized Rs. 255.80 billion, while Nabil Bank stands third with Rs. 235.18 billion in fixed deposits. These banks currently lead Nepal’s financial sector when it comes to long-term deposit mobilization.

Other notable performers include Kumari Bank, with Rs. 198.52 billion, and Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) with Rs. 174.08 billion in fixed deposits. Together, the top five banks hold a significantly higher portion of the fixed deposit market, widening the gap with their competitors.

Fixed deposits are considered a stable and affordable source of funding for banks. Since the funds are locked in for a longer period, banks can utilize them to expand credit facilities while maintaining interest rate stability. Analysts note that such deposits are critical for liquidity management and long-term lending strategies.

A significant portion of fixed deposits in top-performing banks comes from domestic sources. Global IME Bank’s domestic fixed deposits stood at Rs. 269.32 billion, while Nabil and NIMB reported Rs. 231.26 billion and Rs. 245.65 billion, respectively. This highlights the increasing confidence of Nepali customers in long-term banking commitments.

However, not all banks fared equally well. Standard Chartered Bank Nepal recorded only Rs. 29.85 billion in fixed deposits. Similarly, Machhapuchchhre Bank and Citizen Bank trailed behind, indicating a need for improved savings campaigns and fixed deposit incentives.

Fixed deposits play a key role in a bank’s long-term strategic planning, investment capability, and liquidity position. Growth in fixed deposit collections often reflects institutional trust and prepares banks to support infrastructure financing and large-scale loan products.
