All businesses involved in selling goods or services through electronic means must now mandatorily register on the Electronic Commerce Portal of the Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection by Shrawan 2, 2082.
The Department issued a public notice on Thursday urging all e-commerce businesses to complete their mandatory registration within the specified deadline. This directive comes following the implementation of the "Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce) Act, 2081," which came into effect on Baisakh 2, 2082, aimed at regulating digital transactions and protecting consumer rights.
As per the law, existing e-commerce businesses are required to register on the portal within three months from the date of implementation of the Act. Similarly, new businesses must complete registration before starting operations.
To register, businesses must electronically submit details such as the business name, address, registration certificate number, VAT or PAN number, contact information, operating licenses (if any), and social media links, along with other supporting documents.
According to the Act’s Section 4(2) and Section 5, businesses must also include information about their outlets, branches, grievance handling contact points, and responsible personnel to complete the portal listing.
