Kathmandu: The Department of Passports under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to replace the existing passport system with a new one. During the transition period, passport distribution services may be temporarily affected. According to the department, passport services provided through District Administration Offices, Area Administration Offices, and Nepali diplomatic missions abroad may remain closed for one to three days, while services provided directly by the department could be disrupted for about a week. Officials have stated that after the installation of the new system, it may take one to three months for the system to become fully stable. During this interim period, passport applications submitted through district offices and foreign missions may take longer than usual to be processed and issued. The department has already initiated the process of installing the new system and has advised service seekers who may require passports within the next five months to obtain services before the interim phase begins. Additional information regarding the new system will be made public soon, the department said.
