The meeting of the recommendation committee formed to appoint the new Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank has been postponed at the last moment. The meeting, which was scheduled for Sunday, was called off citing the busy schedule of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel.
Earlier, former Governor Bijay Nath Bhattarai had resigned from the committee, stating that meetings were neither being held nor called. Following his resignation, the government appointed outgoing Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari to fill the vacant seat. This was to be the committee's first official meeting since the reformation.
However, due to Finance Minister Paudel’s unavailability, the meeting has once again been deferred. According to the initial timeline, the new Governor should have been appointed by Chaitra 25 (early April), but a lack of consensus between the ruling coalition parties — Nepali Congress and CPN-UML — has left the process in limbo.
It remains unclear when the rescheduled meeting will take place, prolonging the leadership vacuum at the central bank.
