Nepal Telecom's 2G service to be shut down: Profit of Rs 6.23 billion, Preparation to Offer 25% Shares to the Public

Nepal Telecom has earned a net profit of Rs 6.23 billion in the fiscal year 2080/81. The company’s total revenue reached Rs 42.11 billion, while by the end of Poush, it had already generated Rs 20.12 billion. On its anniversary, Nepal Telecom announced that e-SIM will now be available through the Telecom app and website. Additionally, the company has decided to shut down its 1800 MHz 2G service within this fiscal year.

The Nepalese government is preparing to offer 25% of Nepal Telecom’s shares to the public. According to Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, the government aims to reduce its ownership to make the company more efficient. Currently, the government holds 92% of the shares, while the public owns 8%. The minister stated that adopting AI, 5G technology, and service expansion is essential for Nepal Telecom to remain competitive. He emphasized the need to extend 4G services to rural areas, improve service quality, and upgrade telecom towers. He stressed the importance of modern technology to keep Nepal competitive in the telecommunications sector.
