Global IME Bank Launches Nepal’s First Overseas Banking Division for Nepali Diaspora

Global IME Bank has launched Nepal’s first Non-Resident and Overseas Banking Division (NROBD) aimed at providing specialized banking services to Nepali citizens living and working abroad. The new division was officially inaugurated on Thursday at the bank’s corporate office in Naxal, Kathmandu by Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Chairman of the bank and President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).Through the newly established department, Nepalis living overseas will be able to access a range of banking services including account opening, credit processing, transaction banking, capital market services, and portfolio management. According to the bank, these services will be available through phone, email, international offices, bank representatives, and the NROBD office in Kathmandu, with plans to expand the system into a 24-hour banking support service in the future.Speaking at the inauguration, Chairman Dhakal said that Nepali citizens living and working abroad have made a significant contribution to the country’s economic development. He expressed confidence that the new division would strengthen financial connectivity between overseas Nepalis and Nepal by offering convenient and reliable banking services tailored to their needs.Chief Executive Officer Surendra Raj Regmi stated that the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting the Nepali diaspora not only as a remittance partner but also as a full-service financial institution capable of assisting them with investments and financial management in Nepal.Established in 2007, Global IME Bank has been actively serving migrant workers and overseas Nepalis through a wide remittance network, international banking partnerships, and representative offices in the United Kingdom, Australia, and India, along with representatives in several other countries.Currently, the bank operates around 1,000 service centers across Nepal, including 352 branch offices, 379 ATMs, and 147 branchless banking units, along with several extension counters and revenue collection counters. Global IME Bank has also received international recognition, including the Euromoney Award for Excellence 2024 and the Global Finance Best Bank Award 2024.
