Revenue Collection Reaches NPR 409 Billion in Five Months, Sluggish Real Estate and Stock Trading Challenge Targets
The Government of Nepal collected NPR 409.78 billion in revenue during the first five months of fiscal year 2082/83, achieving 78.74 percent of its annual target. While overall revenue increased by 1.68 percent compared to last year, income tax revenue declined by 8 percent due to lower interest rates and sluggish real estate and stock market activities. The Ministry of Finance expects revenue to improve in the coming months as land transactions resume, the stock market shows signs of recovery, and spending related to elections and reconstruction increases economic activity.

Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has amended the Foreign Investment and Foreign Loan Management Regulation, removing the requirement for prior NRB approval to bring in or repatriate foreign investment. Foreign investors can now directly repatriate investment, profits, and dividends through licensed commercial banks. The new provision also allows blacklisted companies to receive foreign investment and further relaxes rules on foreign loans. NRB stated that the amendment will simplify procedures, improve transparency, and enhance Nepal’s overall investment climate.

Nepal Rastra Bank to Absorb Rs 20 Billion to Manage Excess Liquidity Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is set to withdraw Rs 20 billion from the banking system on Sunday as part of its ongoing efforts to manage excess liquidity. The central bank will use its deposit collection instrument to absorb surplus funds currently circulating within the financial system. According to NRB, the bidding process for the deposit collection will take place at 2:00 PM. Commercial banks as well as development and finance companies will be able to participate in the auction by submitting interest rate bids within the specified timeframe.

10 Finance Companies Post Losses While 7 Earn Profits in First Four Months of FY 2082/83 The financial performance of finance companies during the first four months of the current fiscal year 2082/83 has remained mixed. According to data published by Nepal Rastra Bank, out of 17 finance companies in operation, 10 have reported losses while only 7 companies have managed to post profits. Collectively, the loss-making finance companies incurred a total loss of Rs 451.6 million during the review period. Reliance Finance emerged as the worst-performing institution, posting a loss of Rs 181.9 million in just four months. Pokhara Finance followed with a loss of Rs 63.06 million, while Nepal Finance reported a loss of Rs 54.89 million. Best Finance also remained under pressure, recording a loss of Rs 52.79 million. Similarly, Samriddhi Finance incurred losses amounting to Rs 43.83 million during the period.

Exports Surge Sharply in First Four Months, but Trade Deficit Continues to Widen Nepal’s foreign trade showed a mixed trend in the first four months of fiscal year 2082/83 (up to mid-November 2025), with a strong rebound in exports offset by a faster rise in imports, keeping the trade deficit on an upward path. Data released by Nepal Rastra Bank indicate that while export growth has reached a multi-year high, the overall external sector remains under pressure due to Nepal’s heavy import dependence. During the review period, total merchandise exports increased by 77.5 percent to Rs 93.50 billion, compared to a modest 4.2 percent growth in the same period last year. The sharp rise in exports is seen as a positive signal for the external sector, reflecting improved supply conditions and higher outbound shipments of selected commodities.

Man Arrested in Kathmandu for Alleged Illegal Cryptocurrency Trading; Over NPR 190 Million in Digital Transactions Uncovered A man has been arrested in Kathmandu for allegedly conducting illegal cryptocurrency transactions, according to Nepal Police. Mohammad Saif, a resident of Kalaiya Municipality in Bara district and currently living in Dallu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–15, was taken into custody following a special tip-off. Kathmandu District Police Range spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai confirmed that Saif had been operating crypto-related activities from his residence in the capital. Police seized two mobile phones used for conducting transactions through various digital platforms. Preliminary investigations revealed that Saif had carried out more than NPR 198.1 million (over 19 crore 81 lakh) worth of cryptocurrency transactions using those devices. Authorities believe he had been actively involved in large-scale virtual currency trading despite Nepal’s legal restrictions.
